Radio Network Stops Operations Pending Bankruptcy Filing

The poor economy has taken another victim, this time radio network Air America.  Air America Chairman Charlie Kireker announced the network is pulling the plug on its broadcast as it prepares to file for bankruptcy protection.

For the past six years, Air America has been airing in Los Angeles on KTLK 1150 AM. At its peak it had over 100 affiliates carrying its programming, but “this very difficult environment has had a significant impact on Air America’s business,” said Kireker. Last week the network shut down operations just as it announced its plan to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. 

Representatives from KTLK said the station is still figuring out what they’re going to do with the vacant airspace.  Many of the station’s programming came from Air America.

KTLK began broadcasting in Los Angeles in 1927. Since then it has featured all sorts of programming, including rock & roll, talk radio, theatrical performances, light and classic opera, and secular religious programming.
